Last game of the season for Wirral B

Team: Liv Stewart (capt), Katie Leppington, Imi Newall, Victoria Adesina, Piruthia Sivakumar, Analie Lipanski

Result: lost 0-3, 19-25, 21-25, 20-25

Poor start in set 1 with team working out unfamiliar rotation and positions but got much better. Good fight back spurred by a strong spell of serving from Liv but too late to take the set. Looking better in set 2 and leading 17-15 with Frodsham now making most of the mistakes until Jane Betts subbed herself on. After that every time the ball crossed the net from our side it seemed to go to Jane who made a huge difference steadying Frodsham down. She started set 3, Frodsham built a big lead, she subbed herself off and we fought back from 18-10 down with powerful steady serving from Imi, then, as it looked like we’d take the set, Jane came to the rescue again to help Frodsham win the match.

Our 13, 14, and 15 year olds performed really well, Piruthia did some excellent covering work at 5,  Victoria made a couple of outstanding blocks, and Liv captained the team well from an unfamilar setting position. It looks like we’ll have very strong U15 and U16 teams for next years national junior competitions.

That’s all until September. Now for the great outdoors.
