U14 girls 4v4 Grand Prix R2

Venue: Madely High School 7 team round robin.

Team: Natsui Yamamoto, Victoria Adesina, Ella Benjamin.

Opponents: Ashfield Vipers A&B, Newcastle Staffs A,B,C&D

Only 3 players as Piruthia was unable to play after a netball injury on Saturday but still a commanding performance from our 3 remaining players coming top of the table, winning the first 5 games and having the better of a one set all draw with Newcastle Staffs A. Our three girls served, covered the court and controlled the ball so well some of the games against the lesser teams were embarrassing. Wirral won the first 5 games comfortably despite a wobble against Newcastle B when we needed a last ditch last second recovery to come from behind to win set 2. 

It wasn’t until in the final game against ‘Castle A that we came up against any real opposition. 'Castle could serve and control the ball pretty well and even mount some attack, and although Wirral won the first set reasonably easily the four Castle players were able to come back in the second set, got their noses in front and held on to win. However, as they’d already lost a set to Ashfield A, our girls topped the pool in Round 2 on overall performance. 

VE U14 Grand Prix

Wirral came second to Newcastle Staffs A over the two rounds as we’d lost to them in round 1 so our girls will get runners-up medals in the Volleyball England U14 Grand Prix.
